Overtime Goal Dooms Hawks in 1-0 Loss to Oneonta

Box Score

ONEONTA, N.Y. – SUNY Oneonta's Ainsley Stoll broke up a scoreless tie with 1:58 left in the first overtime period Saturday afternoon at All College Field, as the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (5-5, 2-2 SUNYAC) lost to the Red Dragons (7-4, 1-2 SUNYAC), 1-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.

Throughout the entirety of the contest, Stoll fired off shot after shot, putting seven of her 13 on target. While the shot margin stayed relatively even throughout the game—it ended at 17-10 in favor of Oneonta after a 5-2 difference in overtime—no individual on the field could match Stoll's offensive production.

Moments prior to Stoll's game-winning goal, a New Paltz penalty corner set up a scoring opportunity for senior defender Alyssa Finck (Hudson, N.Y.). Finck's shot went wide left, preventing the Hawks from ending the game in dramatic fashion under their terms. Finck also put a shot on target in the second minute of overtime, but her attempt was turned away by the Red Dragon goalkeeper, Leslie Dauphinais.

Freshman goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in the cage for the blue and orange, weathering Stoll's attack. Dauphinais earned the shutout for Oneonta with three saves.

The Hawks look to turn their fortunes around on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when they make the trip across the Hudson to face Vassar College at 4:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
