Box Score
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – With a 1-0 non-conference victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology (7-8) Wednesday afternoon on the Turf Field, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (8-7) tied the program's all-time record for wins in a season with eight. The 2009 and 2004 editions of the program also achieved this milestone.
Freshman forward
Alana Costenbader (Whitehall, Pa.) provided the lone score of the contest in the 54th minute when she took a lead pass from senior defender
Alyssa Finck (Hudson, N.Y.) and buried the ball into the back of the cage. That advantage would hold up through the final portion of the tilt, giving the Hawks just their second-ever win over the Ducks.
The loss snapped Stevens' five-game win streak.
Stevens' Katie Achilles and Finck each made a defensive save. Achilles' stop came at the 30:36 mark, while Finck's save occurred after Mallory Swanson nearly netted the equalizer at 58:21.
On the contest, New Paltz outshot Stevens, 13-5, which included a 7-2 margin in the first half. The Hawks also took 13 penalty corners to the Ducks' 10.
Freshman goalkeeper
Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) earned her third shutout of the season, turning aside one shot in a full 70 minutes of action. Ellyn Griggs made five saves in between the pipes for the Ducks and was shouldered with her eighth loss of the year.
New Paltz will celebrate its four seniors—forward
Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, N.Y.), midfielder
Lauren Nicomini (Newton, N.J.), Finck and goalkeeper
Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, N.Y.)—prior to Saturday, Oct. 23's 1 p.m. non-conference contest against Ramapo College. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at approximately 12:45 p.m. on the Turf Field.
