Cortland Box Score
Oneonta Box Score

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (20-10, 4-2 SUNYAC) had a tough first day during the second round of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division Pool Play Friday evening on the campus of SUNY Potsdam. The Hawks lost, 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24), against SUNY Cortland before falling, 3-1 (14-25, 25-21, 33-31, 25-22), to SUNY Oneonta in the nightcap.

The Hawks had cruised through the first round of SUNYAC East Division Pool Play from Sept. 24-25 on their home court, losing just one set in a 4-0 weekend. This time around, however, New Paltz battled, but its efforts came to no avail.

In each match, the Hawks took the first set with relative ease, only to lose in heartbreaking fashion in the final three stanzas.

Against Cortland, sophomore middle hitter Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) had 10 kills and three blocks, while junior outside hitter Melinda DiGiovanna (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had 12 kills, 12 digs and one block. Freshman libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) boasted a team-high 16 digs, while freshman setter Brigid Moore (Victor, N.Y.) dished out 27 assists.

DiGiovanna surpassed 1,000 digs on her career against Oneonta, totaling 17 on the match. Sophomore right side Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had nine kills and a block, while freshman setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y.) handed out 20 assists. Hack once again offered the team's best dig total (24), while Vosilla played solidly on the front row with five kills and six blocks.

The Hawks' final day of regular-season conference competition is set for tomorrow afternoon in Potsdam, N.Y. The Hawks contest SUNY Plattsburgh at noon before squaring off with host Potsdam at 2 p.m.
