Field Hockey Handed a 1-0 Setback against Kean

Box Score

UNION, N.J. – Kean University's Olivia Triano broke up a scoreless deadlock in the 59th minute, as the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (9-9) lost a hard-fought non-conference battle to the Cougars (10-5) Friday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium by a score of 1-0.

Triano scored unassisted, taking a quick shot after poking the ball away from a defender.

Kean outshot New Paltz, 13-6, on the evening but only put three shots on target.

Senior forward Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, N.Y.) and senior defender Alyssa Finck (Hudson, N.Y.) each uncorked two shots, while Triano unloaded five for the Cougars.

Patrolling the Hawk cage, freshman goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) made two stops. Kean's Lauren Dobbs turned aside two shots in the shutout.

New Paltz will spend the upcoming week gearing up for the 2010 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Field Hockey Tournament, which runs from Nov. 5-6 in Geneseo, N.Y. The third-seeded Hawks meet up with second-seeded SUNY Cortland at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. The winner of that semifinal game will move on to the final on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m.
