The New Paltz softball team opened the 2010 season with a pair defeats to the College of Wooster and Amherst College. The Hawks fell 6-3 to Wooster,
Alyssa Oliva took the loss on the mound for the Hawks. In the Amherst game, the Hawks fell in a shootout, 17-13 in 10 innings with
Courtney Costello taking the loss on the mound for the Hawks.
In the Wooster game,
Jillian Gallagher was 4-for-4 with two runs, a stolen base and a double.
Melissa Liotta cashed in on a RBI double and
Dale Cornelius was 1-for-2.
Melyssa Cilmi was also 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt and a RBI and
Samantha Barra was 2-for-3 with a RBI.
In the Amherst game, Gallagher was 4-for-4 with two RBI's, three runs and three stolen bases.
Rose Dovi was 3-for-5 with a homerun, a double, five RBI's and two runs and
Erin Fitzpatrick and Barra were 2-for-5. Fitzpatrick added three runs and a RBI and Barra had one of each.
Victoria Kyle tied the game for the Hawks in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single.
The Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season and return to action on Monday at 1 p.m. against Scranton and 3 p.m against Stevens.
