GREENSBORO, NC- The New Paltz women's lacrosse team was edged out by Greensboro College Tuesday evening, 9-6 in the Hawks opener.  The Hawks are 0-1 on the season and return to action on March 24th at King's College at 7 p.m. 
"We played well together and executed play in the second half.  This was one of their closet games this season and I was very pleased with the way we played.  Maggie played outstanding in net and made game changing saves" said head coach Heather Semelmacher.
Greensboro jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on goals from Toni Battaglia and two from Melissa Gallaher in the first four minutes, 18 seconds.  Seven minutes later, the Pride netted their fourth goal at the 18:49 mark.  
Brittany Bennett got the Hawks on the board with a goal at the 12:24 mark, but Greensboro came right back a minute and half later with a goal to take a 5-1 advantage.  The Hawks 
Brittany Hunt scored her first collegiate goal with two minutes, 39 seconds remaining in the half as the Pride took a 5-2 lead into the half.
Int he second half, Julianne Rehain tallied her first collegiate goal 58 seconds in to the half on a free position shot.  Over the next eight minutes, Greensboro tallied three straight goals for a 8-3 lead.  The Hawks battled back though, scoring two goals in 44 seconds to cut the lead to 8-5.  Just over two minutes later, Layne Woodard gave the Pride a 9-5 advantage on an unassisted goal.  
Julia Donato netted the last goal of the game for the Hawks with 41 seconds left in regulation.
Leading the way for the Hawks was Julianne Rehain with two goals on four shots and 
Brittany Hunt with a goal and assist.

Samantha DelGaudio added an assist and 
Erin Tornatore had four ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Margaret DeLauter recorded the loss in net, allowing nine goals and saving 17 shots as the Pride fired 32 shots on the Hawks netminder.
Melissa Gallaher led the Pride with three goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers and Layne Woodard added two goals and two assists.  Christie Hebert chipped in with two goals and one assist as Greensboro College improves to 6-2 on the year.
Jessica Catanzano recorded the win in net for the Pride, allowing six goals and saving three shots as the Hawks fired 14 shots in the game.
