COCOA, FL- The New Paltz baseball behind freshman pitcher
Michael Pinnola and a solid offensive attack, the Hawks swept a doubleheader against Baruch at the Expo Sports Complex this afternoon.
In game one, Michael Marash led the Hawks from the plate going 2-for-3 with one run and
Andrew Grann was 2-for-3 with one run as well.
Chris Paulicelli was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, including his second career homerun.
Mike Sherlock and
Paul Merola were each 1-for-3 with one RBI from the plate.
Michael Pinnola improved to 2-0 on the mound this season, pitching his second straight complete game allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and striking out seven.
Peter Dinolfo and Thomas Daly each were 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI to lead Baruch from the plate. David Chestnut was 2-for-3, while also receiving the loss on the mound. He pitched six innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits, striking out four and giving out four free passes.
In the night cap, the Hawks put on a hitting clinic, pounding out 12 runs on 13 hits. Marash led the attack going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI and
Joel Judson was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles. Merola was perfect from the plate going 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI and
Zach Homerda was 1-for-2 with two runs and
Dylan Franco was 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Steve Pinckney was 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Hawks, who now improve to 5-4 overall and wrap-up spring training tomorrow against Norwich in a doubleheader.
Timmy Chelius earned the win on the mound, allowing six runs on 10 hits and striking out four in five and a third innings.
Pat Sylvester finished the game on the mound, pitching one and two thirds and allowing two hits.
Daly was 3-for-4 with one RBI and Chestnut was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI to lead Baruch. Dinolfo was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI and Joseph Murray was 2-for-4 with one run. Jules Ryan Alonzo also added two hits in the nightcap for the Bearcats.
David Gega took the loss on the mound allowing eight runs on eight hits in four and a third innings and Noel Placencia allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits in just two thirds of an inning. Jeffrey Merker pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four for Baruch. Baruch falls to 3-4 on the season.
