New Paltz, NY — Xavier Zykoff was selected as the D3Baseball Team of the Week at pitcher, announced Wednesday by D3baseball.com
Zykoff, a senior right-handed pitcher from Poughkeepsie, NY, threw what was likely his last start of his collegiate career against Oneonta April 21 and made the outing a memorable one as he became the first Hawk in program history to toss a no-hitter.
Zykoff shoved in seven innings of work to lead SUNY New Paltz to a 13-1 run-ruled victory over the Red Dragons to sweep the series. Zykoff let up just three walks, not earned runs and had four strikeouts in the outing, posting an ERA of 0.00 and WHIP of .43. He also appeared later in the week in a 15-6 victory at home on Senior Day against Plattsburgh April 24. He pitched two innings, allowed three hits and two earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts. He finished the week with an ERA of 2.00 and WHIP of .78 in the two appearances.
