POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- The New Paltz women's lacrosse team fell to cross town rival Vassar by the score of 15-8 Friday evening. The Hawks fall to 1-2 overall and return to the action tomorrow in their home opener against Scranton at 1 p.m. Vassar improves to 4-2 overall.
The Brewers held a slight advantage in shots, 27-26 and in groundballs 28-22. The Hawks were successful in clearing the ball 19-of-21 times and forced 24 turnovers.
Bridgitte Hooker led the Hawks on the evening with two goals and an assist. Brittany Bennett and Julianne Rehain each tallied two goals and Brittany Hunt had one goal and assisted on two. Samantha DelGaudio tallied one goal, while Bennett added three groundballs.
Margaret DeLauter recorded the loss in net for the Hawks, allowing 15 goals and saving seven.
Emily Kloppenburg led the Brewers with four goals and Michaela Garrison chipped in with three. Maura McCarthy, Elizabeth Feltch and Larisa Lasko each had two goals and Morgan Namiam assisted on three.
Nicole Engelhardt recorded the loss in net, allowing two goals and saving six in 30 minutes of play. Heather Kesselman played 30 minutes and allowed six goals and saved five.
