BROCKPORT, NY- The New Paltz baseball team defeated the Golden Eagles from Brockport by the score of 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Clark Whited Complex. After the game time was pushed back on several occasions, the Hawks and Golden Eagles kicked off conference play at 3:20 p.m. The Hawks improve to 8-5 oveall and 1-0 in the league and Brockport falls to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in the league.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Tom McCormick scored on Stephen Boronczyk single after McCormick doubled in the inning.
The Hawks got on the board in the fourth inning when Philip Parker tallied his sixth run batted in of the year on a single that scored Mike Sherlock from second. With his seventh double of the year, #Joel Judson# tallied his 13th run batted in of the year when Zach Homerda scored from second. Two batters later, Paul Merola tallied his 11th run batted in of the year when Parker tagged up and scored from third. The Hawks took a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, Boronczyk tallied his second run batted in of the game when Joe Zaccardo scored from second.
Brockport threatened in the seventh when they loaded the bases, but Chris Chismar came in to strike out the last batter to preserve the lead.
Merola finished 2-for-4 and Steve Pinckney added his third double of the year in the seventh inning. Judson, Chris Paulicelli and Sherlock all added one hit for the Hawks.
Judson improved to 3-0 on the mound after pitching six and two third innings. He allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out eight. Chris Chismar earned his first collegiate save. He pitched two and a third innings and struck out five of seven batters he faced.
Brian Wolf (2-1) took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits and struck out four over four innings of work. James Joy finished the last five innings, allowing two hits and striking out six.
