Baseball Splits with #18 Plattsburgh in Offensive Shootout

PLATTSBURGH, NY- The New Paltz baseball team split with nationally ranked #18 Plattsburgh State Cardinals this afternoon on Chip Cummings Field.  The Hawks won the first game 14-11 and fell in the second by the score of 15-9.  The Hawks upped their record to 14-7 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.  Plattsburgh improves to 19-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Clinton Boettcher went 4-for-6 from the plate, including three runs and five RBI while blasting his fifth homerun of the year.  Boettcher now leads the team in RBI with 32. Thomas Pinnola continued to perform well at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI and Joel Judson was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.  Philip Parker was 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI and Mike Sherlock was 2-for-4 with one run scored for the Hawks.

Kyle Ochiuzzo earned his first collegiate victory on the mound.  He pitched three and a third innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out three batters.  Tristan Greene picked up his first save of the year, pitching the final two innings and allowing one run on one hit and striking out two.

Pat Shaughnessy was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI and Tory Bouyea was 3-for-6 with a run scored to lead the Cardinals.  Matt Burns was 1-for-1 with three RBI, including five walks.  Donny Coolidge finished 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI for Plattsburgh.

Starter Matt O'Leary was roughed up for eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in two and two third innings.  Justin Besaw was the losing pitcher of record, as he allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits in four and a third innings.

In the nightcap, Pinnola was 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI and Sherlock was 2-for-3.  Boettcher finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and Zach Homerda and Parker each went deep for the Hawks.  It is Parker's second of the year and Homerda's first collegiate blast. 

Start Chris Chismar went just four and two third innings, allowing eight runs, six earned, on six hits and striking out five.  Michael Pinnola (2-3) was the pitcher of record, allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits and striking out four.

Shaughnessy was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI and Andrew Baio was 2-for-3 with four runs and two RBI.  Greg Larnerd was 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Danny Roeser and Burns each added one hit with two runs and two RBI.

Starter Dan Tracy went three and a third innings allowing seven runs on nine hits and walking four with one strike out.  Corey Johnston (2-1) picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out three.

The Hawks will return to the field tomorrow against Skidmore for a nine inning game starting at noon on Loren Campbell Field.
