BROCKPORT, NY- The New Paltz baseball team wrapped up the 2010 season with an extra inning loss to Brockport Sunday afternoon by the score of 9-8 (10 innings). The Hawks finish the season at 18-18 overall and 4-8 in the SUNYAC.
After playing the first three innings to a scoreless tie, the Hawks put up a six spot in the fourth.
Mike Sherlock started the inning off by getting on base off an error and would later score on an RBI single from
Philip Parker.
Joel Judson followed with an RBI single up the middle scoring Matt O'Neill who singled earlier in the inning. Two batters later,
Paul Merola had a two-run single up the middle, scoring Judson and Parker. Merola and
Chris Paulicelli also scored in the inning on wild pitches to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
In the sixth, Brockport scored one but the Hawks came back in the seventh to get the run back on a
Thomas Pinnola RBI single, scoring Parker from second.
Brockport pulled even closer with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 7-5 Hawks lead. Brockport would take the lead in the eighth with three runs.
Entering the ninth inning, after a groundout and strikeout, the Hawks were down to their last out. Tom Pinnola extended the game with a solo home run to tie the game at 8-8.
Brockport got the game-winning RBI on a single in the 10th inning.
Judson finished 2-for-6 with one run and one RBI and Merola was 2-for-6 with one run and two RBI. Pinnola finished 3-for-6 with one run and two RBI and
Clinton Boettcher was 3-for-5. O'Neill was 2-for-4 with one run for the Hawks.
Starter
Michael Pinnola went six and two third innings and gave up five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Brett Harrison went two thirds of an inning and allowed three runs on one hit and walked two with one strikeout.
Timmy Chelius took the loss, pitching two and a third innings and allowed one run on one hit while striking out two.
