FREDONIA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz placed 47 student-athletes across the two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) spring 2010 academic teams, as announced Friday afternoon by the conference office.

Thirty-one student-athletes gained recognition on the SUNYAC Commissioner's List, while 39 ended up on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team. Twenty-three Hawks earned a spot on both lists.

A total of 1,337 student-athletes qualified for the awards while participating in spring sports. To qualify for the Commissioner's List, the student-athlete must be a varsity athlete, have competed for the entire season and have maintained a grade-point average of 3.3 for three consecutive semesters. To qualify for the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a varsity athlete, have competed the entire season and have maintained at least a 3.3 grade-point average for the spring semester.

Of the 411 who qualified for the Commissioner's List, 24 maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 for three semesters and 12 carried a 4.0 for three semesters. Of the 926 who qualified for the All-Academic Team, 67 student-athletes achieved a spring semester grade-point average of 3.9, and 49 had a 4.0 for the spring semester.

New Paltz student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically. A total of 147 of the 262 student-athletes who competed during the 2009-10 academic year assembled a grade-point average at or above 3.0, and the women's student-athletes combined to piece together a remarkable 3.18 grade-point average.
