Schloss Lifts New Paltz Past Brockport in SUNYAC Opener

Box Score

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior forward Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, N.Y.) inched closer toward the program's all-time points mark when she netted two goals in the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team's 3-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win over The College at Brockport Friday afternoon in Brockport, N.Y.

Schloss, who now sits five points shy of tying the program-record total for career points with 63, put the Hawks (3-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) on the board in the 22nd minute, successfully putting back a rebound off a defensive save. The Golden Eagles (2-4, 0-1 SUNYAC), however, knotted the tally at one apiece when Jackie Massoni rattled the back of the cage off a penalty corner at the 31:40 mark.

The two sides took a 1-1 tie into the intermission, with New Paltz outshooting the hosts by an 8-3 edge.

Schloss put the Hawks ahead in the 42nd minute when she successfully directed a cross from junior forward Stacey Miller (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) into the back of the goal, and freshman forward Alana Costenbader (Whitehall, Pa.) tacked on an insurance score in the 50th minute.

New Paltz outshot Brockport, 17-5, on the afternoon, while each squad took four penalty corners.

Freshman goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) made two saves in between the posts for the Hawks, while Kasey Schreiner tallied a game-high six saves protecting the Golden Eagles' cage.

New Paltz completes its western New York trip this weekend when it contests SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a SUNYAC clash.
