Box Score Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – Katelyn Charbonneau of SUNY Geneseo (9-2, 4-0 SUNYAC) connected on a last-second layup to beat the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team (7-6, 5-1 SUNYAC) by a 54-52 final in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday evening in Geneseo, N.Y. The loss is New Paltz's first in league play this year.

Sophomore forward Kahsyrah Bryant (North Babylon, N.Y.) missed the potential go-ahead jumper with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, and Charbonneau came down with the rebound. The Blue Knights called a timeout, and Charbonneau provided the heroics by taking a Bri Dunton pass and making good on a layup attempt with one second left.

After trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, New Paltz made a furious run, going on a 6-0 tear midway through the stanza. Sophomore guard Maliqua Fisher (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored with 6:36 remaining in the period to bring the Hawks within four. A 5-0 spurt between the 5:46 mark and the 4:01 mark gave New Paltz its first share of the lead since the second minute of the contest, as it leveled the score at 50-all. Alyssa Polosky knocked down a pair of freebies to move the Blue Knights back out in front at 52-50, but Fisher would knot the tally at 52-all with 58 ticks left.

The Hawks shot the three ball well in the first half, going 5-of-10 (50 percent) from long range to keep pace with the Blue Knights. Junior point guard Kaitlin Clifford (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked down a three-pointer 41 seconds into the game to put New Paltz up 3-0, but Geneseo scored 12 unanswered to bury the Hawks in a nine-point hole. Junior guard Zoe Cohen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) helped the blue and orange outscore the host Blue Knights 24-21 to close the period, as she went 3-of-3 from distance. Geneseo took a 33-27 lead into the locker room.

Fisher led New Paltz with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 shooting from the line. Junior forward Shanay Bradley (Bronx, N.Y.) pulled down 12 boards, eight of which came on the defensive end, while junior guard Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Fisher chipped in three assists each. Bryant had three steals coming off the bench, while sophomore forward Alex McCullough (Delmar, N.Y.) blocked two shots.

Neither team fared well from the floor on the night. New Paltz shot 30.8 percent from the field (20-of-65), while Geneseo shot 33.9 percent (19-of-56). The Blue Knights dominated the glass, outrebounding the Hawks by a 54-38 edge. Geneseo, however, committed 20 turnovers to New Paltz's 13.

For Geneseo, Brittany Finkle and Polosky each reached double figures, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. Polosky had a double-double, as she reeled in a game-high 13 rebounds. Dunton dished out five assists, and Melissa Graham added two blocks.

New Paltz looks to return back to its winning ways tomorrow afternoon, as it travels to Brockport, N.Y., to face The College at Brockport in a SUNYAC tilt. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
