CORTLAND, N.Y. – Katy Vdoviak and
Sara Woodward each had a goal and an assist for SUNY Cortland, as the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (4-6, 2-2 SUNYAC) fell, 3-0, to the Red Dragons (7-3, 4-0 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
After a scoreless first half, Katie Barbagallo put the Red Dragons on the board, scoring off a pass from Vdoviak in the 37th minute. At 40:46, Vdoviak directed a Woodward pass into the back of the cage, shooting from the right side at a sharp angle. Finally, Woodward tacked on the game's final score in the 49th minute, tucking a ball inside the left post. On the final goal of the game, Erin Smith was credited with an assist.
Neither team was able to generate much offense, as Cortland took seven shots to New Paltz's five. The Red Dragons also held the upper hand in penalty corners, 11-7.
Emily von Schondorf drew the start in goal for Cortland, making three stops in 58:15 of action. Rachel Moccaldi finished out the game in the Red Dragon cage and did not face a single shot on goal. Von Schondorf was credited with the win, while sophomore goalkeeper
Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) suffered the loss in spite of a two-save effort.
The Hawks hope for a reversal of fortunes on Thursday, Oct. 6, when they host William Paterson University at 4:15 p.m. in a non-conference contest at the Turf Field.
