SCRANTON, Pa. – Turnovers and poor shooting from the field hurt the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team (1-1) on Saturday in the championship game of the Radisson Invitational hosted by the University of Scranton, as the Hawks lost, 93-59, to the host Royals (2-0) at the Long Center.

As a result of his performance in the tournament, senior guard/forward Harris Wichard (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore JFK) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hawks shot just 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the field compared to the Royals' 50 percent showing (35-of-70). New Paltz also turned the ball of 19 times, and Scranton held the edge in the rebounding column, too, grabbing 41 boards to the Hawks' 36.

New Paltz never led, as Scranton started out hot early and did not let its foot off the gas pedal. After a timeout with 7:48 to go in the first half, the Hawks were able to regain some momentum, going on a 5-2 run off a three-pointer by junior guard Shalik Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) and a pair of made free throws by senior guard/forward Jamal Lis-Simmons (Highland, N.Y./Highland). The Royals then ran off nine unanswered points, and Wichard stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer at 4:52 of the first half. Wichard then knocked down another three-pointer on the ensuing possession to trim the deficit to 10 at 40-30, but Scranton outscored New Paltz by a 7-4 margin down the stretch to enter halftime with a 47-34 lead.

After Ross Danzig put the Royals up by 16 with a three-pointer to open the half, junior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) converted on an old-fashioned three-point play, drilling a layup before draining the continuation free throw after a foul. From then on, however, Scranton dictated the pace of the game, shooting 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) from the floor for the half.

Devine had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Wichard led the Hawks in scoring with 15 points, including a 4-of-6 performance at the line. Devine led the team in assists with three, while three different New Paltz players came up with a steal.

For Scranton, four players reached double figures. Travis Farrell offered a game-high 16 points, while Danzig and Luke Hawk had 14. Matt Swaback also scored in double figures with 12 points. Danzig was instrumental in the Royals' offense, as he grabbed six boards, two of which were offensive, and doled out five assists.

New Paltz looks to get back on track on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it faces regional rival Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., at 7 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
