Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Monday. Sophomore guard
Trevor Amalfitano earned his first career men's basketball Player of the Week accolade after putting up a career-high performance Friday. Amalfitano's selection also marks the first SUNYAC weekly award given to the Hawks men's basketball team this season.
Amalfitano scored a career and game-high 33 points Friday night against the Plattsburgh Cardinals, lifting SUNY New Paltz to a mere 1-point victory over the hosts, 80-79. The Port Washington, NY native shot on 61 percent shooting, making a career-high 14-for-23 from the field including 4-for-9 from 3-point range. Amalfitano added a team-high six rebounds, a block and a steal, his performance against the Cardinals helped the Hawks clinch the fourth seed and a home playoff game in the SUNYAC tournament.
And Amalfitano was not fazed by the quick turnaround to the Hawks' next contest, as he put up 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks against the Potsdam Bears on Saturday. Amalfiton's efforts helped SUNY New Paltz to a 94-90 win against the Bears, allowing the Hawks to close out their regular season above .500 overall and 11-7 in conference.

SUNY New Paltz is set to face the No. 5-seeded Cardinals in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
