Offense Lifts New Paltz Baseball to 13-9 Victory over Colby

FORT MYERS, Fla. 
– The bats came alive for the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (5-3), as the Hawks won by a count of 13-9 against Colby College (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Junior pitcher John Schmidt (East Islip, N.Y.) earned the win on the hill for the Hawks, working six innings. He allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Sophomore Matt Kaldon (Montgomery, N.Y.) lit up the Colby pitching staff with a 4-for-5 outing at the plate that included two doubles and an RBI. Freshman left fielder Jimmy Briggs (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) batted 3-for-5 with one RBI, while sophomore first baseman Steve Pinckney (Montgomery, N.Y.) and senior second baseman Dylan Franco (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) had two RBI each.

The Hawks meet up with Otterbein University tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in a Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic doubleheader.
