CLERMONT, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team (4-5) fell twice on Friday at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., dropping a 3-0 decision to Elmhurst College (5-8) before falling, 12-10, to Trinity (Conn.) College (6-5).
The Blue Jays got themselves out of jams with runners on, keeping the Hawks scoreless in spite of their seven hits. New Paltz left nine runners stranded.
Senior pitcher
Courtney Costello (Bayport, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss against the Blue Jays, as she gave up one run on four hits in three innings of work. Senior center fielder/pitcher
Jillian Gallagher (Buchanan, N.Y.) surrendered two runs—one of which was earned—on four hits in four frames of relief work.
Elmhurst's Stephanie Iori pitched a complete game, working seven innings and scattering seven hits. She also struck out six.
Offensively, New Paltz was led by Gallagher, who went 2-for-2 at the plate and had a stolen base. For Elmhurst, Amanda Bowlin went 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Katie Hruby went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
No statistics are available at this time for the Trinity game.
The Hawks close out their time at the NTC Spring Games tomorrow in Clermont, Fla. They take on Manchester College at 9:30 a.m. before facing Williams College at 11:30 a.m.
