NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – Senior center fielder/pitcher
Jillian Gallagher (Buchanan, N.Y.) went 8-for-10 with two triples, a double and a home run across two games on Wednesday in New Windsor, N.Y., helping the State University of New York at New Paltz softball team (8-5) best Hudson Valley foe Mount Saint Mary College (9-6-1) by scores of 12-5 and 12-7 in a non-conference doubleheader.
In game one, Mount Saint Mary scored a run in the first, but New Paltz answered with three runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth to go up, 5-1. A junior leftfielder
Kristen Schork (Warwick, N.Y.) RBI double capped a four-run fifth for the Hawks. The Knights scored once in the home half of the fifth, but New Paltz pushed the lead out to 10 at 12-2 in the sixth. Mount Saint Mary, however, erupted for three runs in the bottom of the inning to close out scoring in game one.
Gallagher went 4-for-5 in the first contest of the afternoon to pace the Hawk attack, while Brittany O'Brien went 3-for-4 to lead the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary led, 7-1, after four innings in game two, but New Paltz plated nine runs in the fifth to rally back and recapture the lead. The Hawks wound up scoring twice more in the top of the seventh to ice the victory.

Samantha Barra (Islip, N.Y.) also had a superb offensive showing, batting 3-for-4. For the Knights, Lacey Kehlenbeck and Sarah Johnson each had multi-hit outings with two hits apiece.
New Paltz opens State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday, April 1, taking on SUNY Oswego at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader in Oswego, N.Y.
