Field Hockey Scores Four Unanswered in 4-1 Victory over Morrisville State

Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – After conceding a goal in the first minute, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (3-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) clamped down, scoring the contest's final four goals in a 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Morrisville State College (0-4, 0-1 SUNYAC) on Saturday evening.

Rebecca Quackenbush opened scoring at the 45-second mark, one-timing a pass from Rebecca Meyer into the back of the cage. The Hawks, however, responded by scoring twice in a two-minute span toward the midway point of the first half. Senior forward Stacey Miller (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) scored unassisted from the top of the circle at 10:49 before feeding sophomore defender Alyssa Stock (Morris Plains, N.J./Whippany Park) a pass off of a penalty corner at 12:23, which Stock buried from the top of the arc.

New Paltz swelled the advantage to three with two markers in a span of 2:07 in the second stanza, as sophomore midfielder/forward Danielle Conklin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) drilled in an unassisted score at 56:19 before freshman midfielder Deirdre O'Neill (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) scored off of a pass from senior forward Maryana Organidis (Belford, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) at 58:26. The Hawks stood tall defensively down the stretch to preserve the advantage and earned their first conference victory of the 2011 campaign.

Sophomore goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) made four saves in the victory for New Paltz, while Paige Jerrett and Laura Blumenfeld posted identical lines of two goals allowed and two saves across 35 minutes of action. Jerrett was tagged with the loss.

On the contest, New Paltz outshot Morrisville by a 22-12 edge, and the Hawks took eight penalty corners to the Mustangs' five.

The Hawks return to action on Wedneday, Sept. 21, taking on non-conference Montclair State University at 4:15 p.m. at the Turf Field.
