Box Score Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Goals continue to come at a premium against the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team, as the Hawks (7-2-1) blanked non-conference Manhattanville College (0-10-0) by a count of 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Manhattanville to extend their win streak to four.

New Paltz has not conceded a goal for 509:21—a span that dates back to a 4-1 victory over Carthage College on Sept. 10. On the year, the Hawks boast a microscopic 0.39 goals-against average.

Junior forward Samantha Abravanel's (Islip, N.Y./Islip) goal in the 50th minute served as the lone score of the game, as she received a cross from junior midfielder Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and tapped the ball in at the back post.

After uncorking four shots in the first half, Manhattanville was unable to counter the New Paltz attack, unleashing just two shots in the final 45 minutes. On the contest, the Hawks outshot the Valiants, 16-6, and took eight corner kicks to Manhattanville's one.

Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y./Baldwin Senior) earned the shutout in net for the Hawks, marking the sixth time this year she has received a shutout decision. Vega turned aside three shots in the win. Manhattanville's Brianna Scapperotti made seven saves in the losing effort.

New Paltz hits the road this weekend for two crucial State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contests. The Hawks visit SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. before traveling to The College at Brockport on Saturday, Oct. 1, for a 1 p.m. clash.
