Box Score UNION, N.J. – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (14-4) shut out non-conference opponent Kean University (8-11), 3-0, on Saturday in its final tuneup before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Field Hockey Tournament.
Junior goalkeeper
Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) made six saves en route to her eighth shutout and 14th victory of the season. Erin Langan shouldered the loss for Kean, allowing three goals while stopping two shots.
Junior defender
Alyssa Stock (Morris Plains, N.J./Whippany Park) kicked the scoring off in the 19th minute with a goal off a feed from freshman midfielder/defender
Jessica Caruana (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East). Senior midfielder
Lauren Link (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) doubled the score at the 23:18 mark with her seventh goal of the season. Senior forward
Morgan Lizotte (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) picked up her team-leading 10th goal of the season off a pass from Stock in the 61st minute to push the Hawk lead to three.
Kean outshot the Hawks on the evening, 14-9, including a 6-5 shots on goal advantage. Kean also held the edge in penalty corners, 12-9.
With the regular season reaching its conclusion, the Hawks gear up for the SUNYAC Tournament, which will be held at the Turf Field on the New Paltz campus. Top-ranked New Paltz faces off with No. 4 SUNY Oneonta on Friday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. in the tournament semifinals.
