BUFFALO – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (32-7) cruised past SUNY Oswego (12-19) in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Buffalo State Sports Arena, winning by a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-13) score.
The Hawks, the SUNYAC East Division's No. 2 seed, received various offensive contributions, as nine different players recorded a kill. Senior middle hitter
Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) led the way with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, and she also played standout defense, totaling two solo blocks and one assist block. Junior libero
Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) paced the back row with 13 digs, while senior outside hitter
Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and sophomore libero
Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) added 11 each. Junior setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) dished out 31 assists as well.
Oswego, the SUNYAC West Division's No. 3 seed, was led by Stephanie Bailey's five kills, while Kelsey Ihle collected a team-high nine digs.
New Paltz moves on to the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament tomorrow afternoon, as it faces Buffalo State, the SUNYAC West Division's No. 1 seed, at 3 p.m.
