Box Score Box Score

YONKERS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team (3-2) defeated non-conference host the College of Mount Saint Vincent (1-4) on Wednesday evening by a 16-3 margin to raise its winning percentage over the .500 mark for the season.

The Hawks blanked the Dolphins in the first half, going to the midway break with a 9-0 lead before relenting three goals in the second stanza. The three markers allowed by senior goalkeeper Stefanie Mignone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) marks the lowest goals-allowed total for New Paltz since a 21-1 victory over Bard College on April 22, 2010.

Junior attack player Juli Rehain (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) led the Hawk scoring attack with four goals despite starting the game on the sidelines. Sophomore attack player Talia Tesler (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) followed closely with three goals and an assist. Senior attack player Samantha DelGaudio (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and freshman midfielder Carissa Citro (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) tied for a game-high five points each. DelGaudio achieved the honor with two goals and three assists, while Citro notched three markers and two helpers.

For the Dolphins, midfielder Nicole Flores scored all three Mount Saint Vincent points. Attack player Dianna Lawless was credited with the only Dolphin assist.

Mignone earned the victory for New Paltz with seven saves in 60 minutes of action. Kacie McCormack took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent, playing the first 35 minutes of action and allowing 12 goals with five stops. Michelle Miller came on in relief, collecting two saves while allowing the final four Hawk goals.

Citro and Tesler staked the Hawks to an early 4-0 lead with each scoring two goals in the first 24 minutes of action. New Paltz closed the first half by blazing by the Dolphin defenses, scoring another five goals in the last 5:07 of the half.

The Hawks extended their lead to 13-0 before Flores was able to get past Mignone in goal with 22:45 remaining in regulation.  She scored twice more in the next eight minutes to bring the Dolphins within 10, but the New Paltz defense clamped down and did not allow another goal throughout the contest.

New Paltz converted on 13 of its 17 clear attempts while Mount Saint Vincent was 6-of-8. The Hawks won the turnover battle by a slight margin, losing 24 possessions compared to the Dolphins' 28. New Paltz corralled more ground balls than its opponent by a slight 27-26 margin.

The Hawks return home on Saturday, March 24, to take on non-conference opponent Hartwick College on the Turf Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
