Megan Douglas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) all scored once. DelGaudio handed out a team-high three assists, while Citro and Johnson boasted one helper apiece. Valdivia scooped up a team-high five ground balls, while Tornatore controlled a game-high eight draws.
For Oneonta, Rebecca Monteith netted a game-high eight markers and added game-highs in ground balls (12) and caused turnovers (7). Caroline Tulley and Andrea Spano each had a hat trick, while Alexa Anzalone, Kiera McNally and Jillian Donodeo buried two goals apiece. In addition, Casey Sarle and Heidi Kissinger each scored once.
Senior goalkeeper
Stefanie Mignone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) played the full 60 minutes and made 10 stops for the Hawks, while Annelisa Muscietta earned the win and made eight saves for Oneonta. Laura Grose saw 14:28 of action as a reserve goalkeeper for the Red Dragons and made one save while permitting six goals.
Oneonta scored the first five goals of the game—three of which came from Tulley—before Valdivia and Johnson each scored unassisted to draw New Patlz within three. Anzalone converted on a McNally pass while Donodeo cashed in on a Spano feed to swell the Red Dragon cushion back out to five with 6:44 to go in the first half. DelGaudio put New Paltz back on the board with 6:07 remaining on the clock, but Monteith and Spano each scored within a minute of each other to increase Oneonta's advantage once again. Citro closed out scoring for the half with a goal with 1:34 remaining in the period.
Monteith scored just 29 seconds into the second half, but DelGaudio answered with an unassisted marker less than a minute later. Tornatore and Citro each scored off a pass from DelGaudio, while Douglas scored unassisted to pull the Hawks within three goals at 11-8. The two teams traded scores, and the margin remained at three after back-to-back goals from Valdivia and Citro made the score 16-13 with 7:06 to go in regulation. Sarle scored once and Spano scored twice to give the Red Dragons a six-goal cushion, but Johnson found the back of the net 22 seconds before the two-minute mark to bring New Paltz within five. Monteith used an Anazlone pass to score with 1:58 remaining in the second half, while Anzalone buried a man-up marker with 32 seconds left. Monteith closed out scoring with 12 ticks left on the clock, which pushed the score out to its final tally of 22-14.
Oneonta outshot New Paltz by a 42-32 edge, while the Hawks controlled 20 draws to the Red Dragons' 18. Oneonta was 20-for-25 on clear attempts, while the Hawks went just 15-for-26. The Red Dragons converted on their only man-up opportunity, and neither team made a free-position shot.
New Paltz next faces non-conference Bard College on Thursday, April 12, at 4 p.m. at the Turf Field.
