BUFFALO – Buffalo State (12-5, 5-3 SUNYAC) led 12-5 at halftime and finished the game with seven straight goals, pushing past the State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team (7-10, 2-6 SUNYAC), 22-10, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. It marked the 2012 season finale for New Paltz, and the Hawks finished the year equaling their single-season program record for wins with seven.
Karen Shaddock put the Bengals on the board in the first two minutes of the game, and senior attack player
Samantha DelGaudio (Northport, N.Y./Northport) responded 30 seconds later with a marker of her own. Karen and Jenn Shaddock each cashed on passes from Kendyl Clarkson to swell the Bengal lead to two, but freshman midfielder
Lianne Valdivia (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) pulled the Hawks within one with an unassisted goal with 21:47 to play in the first half. Becca Martinez, Niki Paulhardt and K. Shaddock each scored before Valdivia broke up the scoring spree with a goal midway through the period. Buffalo State scored six of the next seven goals, and sophomore attack player

After Paulhardt opened the second-half scoring, New Paltz scored four unanswered goals from Valdivia (two), senior midfielder

Erin Tornatore (Glen Cove, N.Y./North Shore). K. Shaddock responded with two scores in less than a minute, and freshman midfielder
Carissa Citro (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) answered with what wound up being the final Hawk goal of the afternoon off a free-position shot with 20:46 remaining in regulation. The Bengals scored seven times in the final 19:15 of the game, and the home team came away with the win.
Valdivia led the Hawk attack with four goals, while Tornatore scored twice. Citro, Tesler, Donato and DelGaudio all chipped into New Paltz's scoring efforts with one marker apiece. For Buffalo State, K. Shaddock led the charge with nine goals, and Clarkson handed out nine assists. Ashley Caporizzo and Becca Martinez notched four goals apiece, while J. Shaddock (two), Paulhardt (two) and Brittany Nagowski (one) rounded out the Bengals' scoring. K. Shaddock finished the day with 13 points, as she also had four assists. Defensively, Caporizzo caused a game-high three turnovers, and K. Shaddock ruled supreme off the draw with 11 draw controls.

Stefanie Mignone (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) took the loss with 15:16 of playing time—during which she made four saves—before giving way to freshman goalkeeper
Jackie Ulanoff (Northport, N.Y./Northport), who stopped six shots in the final 44:44 of action. Colleen George earned the win for Buffalo State by making six stops over 50:46 of play, while Adi DiDuro lasted 9:14 and gave up five goals without making a save.
New Paltz was outshot, 36-19, and Buffalo State held a 17-16 cushion in draw controls. Buffalo State went 7-for-8 on clear attempts, while the Hawks went 8-for-14.
2012 marked the program's first year under the direction of head coach
Liz Student, and New Paltz reached the SUNYAC win column for the first time since the program's reinstatement in 2009.
