New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Closes out NYU Labor Day Invitational with Wins over Wisconsin-Platteville, Stevens

NEW YORK – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (3-1) won both of its matches on the second day of the NYU Labor Day Invitational on Saturday at the Coles Sports Center, topping the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22), and the Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23). Senior middle hitter Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and junior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hawks held the Pioneers to a .084 hitting percentage in the opening match of the day while hitting at a .228 clip themselves. Junior middle hitter Liz Hauser (East Williston, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) floored a match-high 10 kills and hit .280, while King dished out 31 assists, also a match-high total. Junior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) came up with 19 digs, while freshman outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) landed five service aces. Vosilla paced the front row with three block assists, as she was a part of three-quarters of the team's final block total. For Wisconsin-Platteville, Danielle Cushley recorded nine kills, while Haley Jansen boasted 15 digs.

Borquist floored a match-high 14 kills against Stevens, hitting at a .294 clip. Vosilla also had a double-digit kill total (11) and added three block solos and one block assist. Sophomore libero Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Hack each had 22 digs, while Borquist also played well defensively with 20 digs and four block assists. King kept the offense running with 32 assists. For Stevens, Annemarie Thomas and Maggie Kowalska had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Kowalska slammed down five block assists.

New Paltz is next in action at the University of Rochester Volleyball Invitational, which runs from Friday, Sept. 7, through Saturday, Sept. 8. The Hawks kick off the tournament with a 6 p.m. match against Medaille College on Friday.
