CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (14-3, 3-1 SUNYAC East) won both of its matches on the second day of the first round of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division Pool Play Saturday at SUNY Cortland's Corey Gymnasium. The Hawks beat SUNY Potsdam, 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19), before topping SUNY Oneonta, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18), to finish out the weekend 3-1.
In the Potsdam match, freshman outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) led the team with 16 kills and 10 digs, while junior setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) dished out 44 assists. Defensively, junior libero
Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) came up with 23 digs, while senior outside hitter
Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) totaled 21 digs.
Against Oneonta, Borquist boasted a line of 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks, while Jacobson recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. King doled out 33 assists, while Hack collected 18 digs.
New Paltz returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when it travels down to New York City to square off with Baruch College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
