Meet Results

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team moved to 6-0 overall on Friday afternoon, as the Hawks topped visiting SUNY Cortland (3-4), 148-111, at Elting Pool. New Paltz posted the top time in 12 of the 14 events contested at the meet.

Senior Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) led the way with three individual event victories. She touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.03), the 200 backstroke (2:13.61) and the 200 individual medley (2:15.71), but her individual medley swim was marked as exhibition, meaning that Cortland scored the first-place points in the event.

Senior Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) had a memorable afternoon, as she bettered the Elting Pool 100 butterfly record with her first-place finish. Her time of 59.45 bettered the former record of 1:00.65 set by Jennifer Anthone of SUNY Geneseo in 2009. Marshall also triumphed in the 200 butterfly, as she went a 2:14.37.

Juniors Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) also were individual winners, with Allocco taking the 1,000 freestyle (10:49.84) and the 500 freestyle (5:18.38) and Scalise winning the 200 freestyle (1:59.28) and the 100 freestyle (54.59). Senior Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) boasted a first-place finish, too, touching the wall first in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.14).

New Paltz had the fastest time in both relay events. The 200 medley relay team of Suzuka, Marshall, freshman Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and Scalise raced to a 1:52.18 standard, while the 400 freestyle relay squad of senior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), Graffin, freshman Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) and Scalise charted a time of 3:42.97.

Second-place finishes came from Griger in the 1,000 freestyle (10:52.68) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.27), Allocco in the 200 freestyle (2:00.92), Graffin in the 50 freestyle (25.95), sophomore Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.42) and freshman Kim Kallansrude (Muttontown, N.Y./Jericho) in the 200 butterfly (2:15.92).

New Paltz competes in its final home meet of the 2012-13 season on Saturday, Jan. 26, as it hosts SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m. at Elting Pool.
