Cortland, NY – The State University at New Paltz swimming program competed in day one of the Snow Flurries Mid-Season Invitational at Cortland State on Friday. At the end of day one the women sit in third place with 162 points behind SUNY Oneonta who has 213 points. The men are also trialing Oneonta, sitting in third with 149 points, to Oneonta's 253.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of
Alex Gorzula,
Deniz Gurcan,
Jack Samko and
Nicholas Ahlborn placed fourth with a time of 1:40.55.
Sebastian Maldonado,
Dylan Esposito,
Hayden Brock and
Max Ceasar placed sixth with a time of 1:54.14.
The women's team of
Jaina Bischof,
Erin Donovan,
Alexis Egbert and
Brianna Law placed third, touching the pads with a time of 1:01.25.
Antonio Vavalle placed third in the 500-yard freestyle. Vavalle touched the pads with a time of 4:59.21. Esposito placed tenth with a time of 5:44.05.
Sophia Bucci also took third place, earning points for the Hawks with a time of 5:49.42.
Kiara Walsh and
Annabella Perez Salvi touched tenth and eleventh with times of 6:28.02 and 6:48.29, respectively.
Gorzula won the men's heat for the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.29. Gurcan touched fifth with a time of 2:05.92. Donovan touched fourth for the women with a time of 2:21.24.
Madeleine Tothero earned tenth in the event with a time of 2:34.73. Bischof touched twelfth with a time of 2:41.07.
Samko earned third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.15. Ahlborn followed close behind, touching sixth with a time of 23.33.
Max Ceasar placed tenth with a time of 25.20.
Egbert won the women's heat with a time of 25.64.
Brianna Law placed fifth with a time of 26.70, followed by
Jade Fontanez in tenth with a time of 28.95.
Athena Sage touched twelfth with a time of 30.32.
The women's 800-yard freestyle relay placed fifth. The team of Bucci,
Jayme Fink, Tothero and Walsh touched with a time of 9:13.09.
The Hawks will be back in the pool on Saturday for day two of the mid-season meet.
