Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (6-4, 3-1 SUNYAC) put itself in good position to make the 2013 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday, prevailing, 1-0, over SUNY Oneonta (6-4, 1-2 SUNYAC) in a league contest at the Turf Field.
Defense ruled the day, as the two teams combined for 28 shots, and there was just one goal to show for it.
On a free hit following an Oneonta green card in the 58th minute, sophomore defender
Jessica Caruana (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) blasted a ball from outside the circle. The ball was redirected off the goalkeeper's pad and trickled into the goal, marking the lone marker of the contest.
Senior goalkeeper
Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) notched the shutout with a two-save effort, while Oneonta's Tess Tracy made 10 stops in the loss. Sierra Earle earned a defensive save for the Red Dragons.
New Paltz held a 20-8 edge in shots, including a 12-1 cushion in the first 35 minutes of play. The Hawks took 11 penalty corners to the Red Dragons' nine as well.
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, taking on non-conference Richard Stockton College in Pomona, N.J.
