BUFFALO – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team stretched its winning streak to 13 on Friday afternoon during the third round of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play hosted by Buffalo State, as the Hawks topped SUNY Oswego, 3-1 (25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15).
New Paltz needs just one win tomorrow to lock up the top seed in the SUNYAC Volleyball Championship Tournament, which is held from Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10. The SUNYAC, which introduced a non-divisional format to volleyball play this year, will award hosting rights for the tournament to the No. 1 seed.
The Hawks cruised to set wins in the first and second stanzas, winning 25-11 and 25-13, respectively. Oswego fought back in the third, though, prevailing by a 25-23 count, but New Paltz finished off the Lakers with a 25-15 triumph in the fourth.
New Paltz advances to 25-5 overall and 7-0 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks complete SUNYAC action tomorrow, facing SUNY Cortland at 10 a.m. before squaring off with SUNY Potsdam at 12:30 p.m. Oswego falls to 18-12 overall and 1-6 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers finish their conference schedule tomorrow as well, matching up with The College at Brockport at 10 a.m. before meeting up with host Buffalo State at 3 p.m.

Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) and junior outside hitter
Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) paced the Hawk attack with 14 and 11 kills, respectively, while senior setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) doled out 44 assists. Herbst and Borquist each completed a double-double with 16 and 10 digs, respectively. Senior libero
Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) also chipped in defensively with 13 digs.
For Oswego, senior outside hitter Sabrina Sutton and sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Dillon tied for the team-high in kills with seven each. Freshman setters Lauren Edwards and Lindsey Champitto split the setting duties, dishing out 14 and 13 assists, respectively, while sophomore libero Rachel Ruggaber and Sutton notched 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
