Field Hockey Takes on Vassar in Second-to-Last Regular-Season Game

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team looks to build momentum heading into the home stretch of the season, as it visits non-conference Vassar College on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 4 p.m.

Records: New Paltz possess a 10-7 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Vassar is 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the Liberty League.

Scouting the Hawks: New Paltz gained the No. 3 seed in the 2013 SUNYAC Field Hockey Tournament on Saturday, as it topped SUNY Oswego, 2-1, in its final conference game of the season… Sophomore forward Dani Ackerman scored both goals for the Hawks, while senior midfielder Alyssa Stock and freshman freshman forward/midfielder Kayla McKeveny each picked up assists… Oswego drew within one at 46:47, and a crucial defensive save by sophomore defender Sarah Sansone in the final 10 minutes of play helped New Paltz preserve the victory… Senior forward Danielle Conklin set the program's all-time assists record over the weekend, and she is one assist shy of tying the school's single-season mark… Conklin currently ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in points per game (T-15th, 2.82) and goals per game (T-16th, 1.12).

Scouting the Brewers: Vassar extended a modest two-game win streak on Saturday, defeating Ramapo College, 3-0… Senior forward Liz Raskopf scored in the first half, while sophomore forward/midfielder Lauren Wiebe and senior midfielder Tina Caso rattled the back of the cage in the second stanza… Vassar outshot Ramapo, 19-1… With a 3-3 record in the Liberty League, the Brewers qualified for their first-ever Liberty League Tournament… Vassar will face Skidmore College in the opening round on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m.

Last Meeting: (Box Score): New Paltz hopped out to a 5-0 lead and staved off a Brewer comeback in the second half to prevail, 5-3, on Oct. 12, 2012… In that contest, then junior midfielder/forward Danielle Conklin supplied two goals and an assist… Then junior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri kept a clean sheet in the first half, making one stop... Pjetri earned the win.

Head Coaches: New Paltz is led by fifth-year head coach Shanna Vitale, who has won back-to-back SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors. Vassar is coached by Michael Warari, who is in his first year.

What's Next: New Paltz wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a non-conference home game against Kean University at 1 p.m. Vassar looks ahead to the Liberty League Tournament next, squaring off with Skidmore in the opening round on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
