SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team staved off Union (N.Y.) College, 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 25-27, 15-9), to stretch its winning streak to 17 during the first day of the Skidmore Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) enjoyed a standout match on the attack, landing a career-high 25 kills off a .333 hitting percentage. New Paltz hit at a .156 clip for the match, and each team totaled nine blocks.
The Hawks push their overall record to 29-5 and match up with Kean University and host Skidmore College tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, on the second and final day of the Skidmore Invitational. Union (N.Y.) drops to 20-9 overall and faces SUNY Fredonia and Kean tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
Beyond Borquist, freshman middle hitter
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) fired off 16 kills and fashioned a .344 hitting percentage. Senior libero

For Union (N.Y.), sophomore outside hitters Kelley White and Rachel Wyman tallied 15 and 11 kills, respectively, while freshman setter Amanda Price doled out 23 assists. Senior defensive specialist Marissa Vollmer finished with a match-high 31 digs.
