Women's Swimming Set to Face Vassar on Saturday at 1 p.m.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team looks to continue its preparation for the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championships, as the Hawks square off with cross-river opponent Vassar College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Records: The Hawks enter Saturday's meet at 2-0, while Vassar comes into Saturday with a 1-1 dual-meet record.

Scouting the Hawks: New Paltz continued its unbeaten start to the season on Saturday against SUNY Oswego, topping the Lakers by a 135-65 final… Sophomore Cassidy Griger won both the 50 freestyle (26.01) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.96)… Senior Chelsea Allocco won the 1,000 freestyle (10:57.54)… Sophomore Maggie Heaton won in the 200 freestyle (2:04.99)… Junior Samantha Granan took top honors in the 200 individual medley (2:19.95), sophomore Kim Kallansrude was a winner in the 100 butterfly (1:01.98) and senior Victoria Scalise took home the 100 backstroke (1:04.04)… Junior Kat Buyes captured the 100 freestyle (57.50).

Scouting the Brewers: Vassar lost, 164-127, to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute last Saturday in Troy, N.Y… Freshman Julia Cunningham set the program's 100 butterfly record in the meet, clocking a swift time of 58.96… Cunningham, who won the 100 butterfly, also touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:08.31)… Sophomore Lily Frye captured the 50 freestyle in 26.66, while sophomore Milee Nelson went a first-place time of 1:04.77 in the 100 backstroke.

Last Meeting: (Meet Results): New Paltz downed Vassar, 140-88, when the two teams last met on Nov. 17, 2012, at Elting Pool… Then-freshman Cassidy Griger, then-junior Chelsea Allocco, then-senior Carly Marshall  and then-junior Victoria Scalise each picked up a pair of individual event wins. Griger won both the 1,000 freestyle (11:09.04) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.71), Allocco claimed the 200 freestyle (2:03.19) and the 400 individual medley (4:50.62), Marshall took the 200 butterfly (2:17.09) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.03) and Scalise touched first in the 50 freestyle (25.91) and the 500 freestyle (5:29.61)… Beyond those four, then-senior Yuka Suzuka and then-freshmen Ella Graffin and Krista VerMeersch each charted a first-place time individually… Suzuka provided the top 100 backstroke standard (1:02.05), Graffin won the 100 freestyle (57.31) and VerMeersch covered the 200 breaststroke in a first-place 2:42.34.

What's Next: New Paltz next competes at the ECAC Winter Championships from Friday-Sunday, Dec. 6-8, at Lehman College in Bronx, N.Y., while Vassar competes at the Liberty League Championships from Dec. 6-8 at Union (N.Y.) College.

Coaches: New Paltz is coached by sixth-year head coach Scott Whitbeck... Vassar is directed by 19th-year head coach Lisl Prater-Lee.
