Softball Defeats Southern Maine, Oberlin

CLERMONT, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team (4-3) won twice at the NTC Spring Games on Sunday to move above .500, defeating the University of Southern Maine, 6-0, before topping Oberlin College, 6-5.

Against Southern Maine, senior Melissa Liotta (Brentwood, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), junior Emily Frawley (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and sophomore Emily Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) all had multi-hit games. Liotta and Mouillesseaux boasted a double each, which sophomore Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) recorded a triple. Liotta and sophomore Erika Traina (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) each drove in a pair of runs, while Mouillesseaux notched one RBI. Freshman Katie Rutcofsky (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) earned the win in the circle for the Hawks.

Senior Andrea Feeney (Ulster Park, N.Y./Kingston) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while freshman Jordan Fiore (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) batted 1-for-2 with two RBI. Sophomore Noelle Grande (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, while Frawley posted a 1-for-2 outing with a stolen base. Senior Amber Carozza (MIlton, N.Y./Marlboro) threw a five-hitter, striking out five while permitting three earned runs.

New Paltz continues action at the NTC Spring Games tomorrow, as it faces No. 14 Carthage College at 1 p.m. before squaring off with D'Youville College at 5 p.m.
