Softball Closes out NTC Spring Games with Pair of Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team (7-4) won a pair of games on its final day at the NTC Spring Games on Tuesday, beating Grove City College, 12-11, before topping Western Connecticut State University, 1-0.

Against Grove City, junior designated player Emily Frawley (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) led the way with a 3-for-4 outing, while sophomore right fielder Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) collected four RBI in a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored. Sophomore Erika Traina (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) earned the win in the circle, striking out nine and allowing six earned runs in seven innings of work.

Against Western Connecticut State, New Paltz scored its lone run in the fifth when junior first baseman Chelsea Kull (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) plated sophomore center fielder Shayna Burgess (Smithtown, N.Y./Commack) with a sacrifice fly. Sophomore left fielder Noelle Grande (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) paced the attack with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while freshman pitcher Katie Rutcofsky (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) threw a complete-game shutout with three strikeouts.

The Hawks open up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday, March 29, as they square off against Buffalo State in a 3 p.m. doubleheader in Buffalo.
