Women’s Cross Country Captures Vassar Invitational Title

Meet Results

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's cross country team wound up coming home with the Vassar Ron Stonitsch Invitational title on Saturday, placing first out of 10 teams. Host Vassar College and Marywood University took second and third in the team standings, respectively. The race was 5K in distance.

Junior Terisa Woych (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) was the first Hawk to cross the finish line, clocking a second-place 18:58.33. Woych is just the second New Paltz female harrier to crack the 19-minute barrier in a 5K race, and she stands just 10 seconds off the program record in the event. Senior Amanda Wolfer (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) charted a third-place time of 19:01.22, while freshman Katie Gantley (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) placed 11th (19:36.86).

Sophomore Rachel Levy (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and freshman Taryn Colon (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) finished 15th (19:54.41) and 19th (20:02.15), respectively, while freshman Rebecca Verrone (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and senior Andrea Prusik (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) rounded out the Hawks' top-seven finishers, posting times of 20:19.52 (23rd) and 20:25.92 (25th), respectively.

Amy Regan of the Stevens Institute of Technology won the race in 18:15.19.

The Hawks will get a chance to run the course that will be used at this year's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Sept. 14, as they travel to Oneonta, N.Y., for the Oneonta Invitational.
