Allocco Sets Pool Record in Women’s Swimming’s 125-52 Win over Mt. St. Mary

Meet Results

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) set the Elting Pool record in the 1,000 freestyle (10:40.94), as the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team cruised past Mount Saint Mary College, 125-52, on Friday night. It marked the Hawks' final home meet of the 2013-14 season.

Allocco blasted through the race at a blistering pace, hitting the 200 mark at 2:06.54 and the 500 mark at 5:19.90. Her final time bettered the former facility standard of 10:46.58, which former New Paltz swimmer Jess Lester set in 2011. Allocco also won the 100 freestyle, as she covered the race in 56.87.

New Paltz rises to 5-2 and returns to the pool tomorrow, as it visits SUNY Oneonta for a 1 p.m. meet. Mount Saint Mary falls to 7-4 and takes on The College at Old Westbury and the College of Mount Saint Vincent tomorrow afternoon at the Kaplan Center.

All told, New Paltz won all 11 events contested, and six different Hawks posted an individual event win.

Sophomore Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) touched first in the 50 freestyle (26.30) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.17), sophomore Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) won the 200 individual medley (2:20.39) and the 500 freestyle (5:25.85), senior Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) captured the 200 freestyle (1:57.59), junior Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) took the 100 backstroke (1:06.16) and sophomore Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) paced the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.97). Heaton's 100 breaststroke time came as an exhibition entry.

The Hawks swept both relays, too. The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), sophomore Krista VerMeersch (Newark, N.Y./Newark), Graffin and sophomore Zoe Papetti (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) clocked a first-place time of 1:57.33, while the 200 freestyle relay squad of Griger, VerMeersch, sophomore Alex Senglaub (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) and Granan charted a winning standard of 1:45.35. The Hawks' 200 freestyle relay was entered as exhibition.
