NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Entering the final regular season weekend of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team is fighting for a playoff berth, playing at Buffalo State and SUNY Fredonia on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 24-25.
 
RECORDS: New Paltz is 8-6-2, 2-3-2 SUNYAC with eight points... Buffalo State is 6-7-2, 3-4-0 SUNYAC with nine points and is currently the No. 6 seed... Fredonia is 6-7-1, 3-3-1 SUNYAC with 10 points and is holding on to the No. 5 seed.


SCOUTING THE HAWKS (8-6-2, 2-3-2): The Hawks have eight points from two wins and three ties in SUNYAC competition and are looking to earn a spot in the playoffs…  Moving forward with two wins against Plattsburgh and Potsdam, the New Paltz dropped a 1-0 away contest at Oneonta… Sophomore midfielder Skye Kaler had the only shot on goal of the game as five different players recorded five shots in total… New Paltz earned five corner kicks… Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Cordero suffered the defeat while making eight saves… The Hawks hold a 2-4-1 record on the road…Cordero ranks second in shutouts in the SUNYAC with five… New Paltz is looking to return to the post-season after missing out in 2013… In 2012, the Hawks suffered a penalty kick defeat at the hands of Fredonia in the quarterfinals.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Senior midfielder Eleni Anselmi leads the team in all offensive categories, including points (14), goals (5), assists (4), shots (42) and shots on goal (23)… Junior midfielder Kristina Gandolfo has four goals and three different players have three goals each… Gandolfo has recorded 37 shots… Senior defender Bryce Kristall also has four assists and Gandolfo has three… Cordero has started in all sixteen games, facing 219 shots and making 75 saves… Cordero boasts an .815 save percentage, seventh best in the league.

TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz has outscored opponents 28-18, outshooting them 319-229... 141 shots have been on target and the Hawks average 19.9 shots a game… The Hawks have earned 79 corner kicks while only conceding 59.


SCOUTING THE BENGALS (6-7-2, 3-4-0): Buffalo State sits just one point above New Paltz and one point below Fredonia in the SUNYAC standings… The Bengals are fighting to return to the playoffs after dropping a 2-1 defeat in the semifinals against Geneseo last year… Buffalo State enters the weekend after defeating Potsdam 1-0 and dropping a 4-1 contest to Plattsburgh… Junior defender Gabrianna Boldinski scored a header off a corner kick to claim the winning goal against Potsdam… The Bengals held a 16-3 margin in shots… Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Torres made one save in route to earning her first collegiate shutout… Against Plattsburgh, the Bengals were outshot 15-7 with Torres making four saves and freshman goalkeeper Jessica McCarey making one… Sophomore forward Micky Tinnerman scored the Bengals' only goal of the game off an assist from junior forward Meghan Allen…Buffalo State is 2-4-1 at home this season.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Freshman midfielder Breanna Knight leads the team in goals (4), points (10), shots (27) and shots on goal (17)… Four players have tallied three goals… Senior forward Megan Chapple has eight points and two game-winning goals… 14 players have recorded a point this year… McCarey is 4-5-1 with a goals-against average (GAA) of 1.02, 40 saves, an .800 save percentage and one shutout… Torres is 2-2-1 with a GAA of .86, 21 saves, an .808 save percentage and one clean sheet.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Bengals have outscored opponents 24-15, holding a 197-151 edge in shots… Buffalo State holds a 114-77 shots-on-goal advantage… The Bengals have attempted 55 corner kicks, allowing 43… Buffalo State has outscored foes 13-2 in the first half.

LAST MEETINGThe Hawks tied Buffalo State 0-0 in double overtime when these two teams last met on Oct. 26, 2013.


SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS (6-7-1, 3-3-1): Fredonia has registered SUNYAC wins over Geneseo, Buffalo State and Plattsburgh while drawing with Oswego… The Blue Devils sit one point ahead of Buffalo State in the standings, holding onto the No. 5 seed currently… Sophomore forward Alexis Moreland notched a goal in the second minute against Plattsburgh which stood in the 1-0 win over the Cardinals… Senior midfielder Katie Kleine ranks fifth in the SUNYAC in shots per game (3.64) and sixth in points per game (.93)… The Kleine sisters (Katie and Kristie) are tied for eighth in the SUNYAC in goals per game (.357)… Junior goalkeeper Forness ranks second in the conference in saves per game (6.38).
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Katie Kleine leads the team with 13 points and 51 shots… Katie and younger sister, sophomore midfielder Kristie Kleine, have combined for 10 goals, five assists and 25 points this year… The sisters have registered 100 shots combined, which is 49.3 percent of the team's total shots… Moreland has four goals (two game-winners) and three assists… Sophomore midfielder Kaleigh Creeden has notched two scores… Forness is 6-6-1 with a GAA of 1.36, an .822 save percentage, 83 saves and four shutouts.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Fredonia has been outshot 209-203 this season, surrendering 22 goals while scoring just 18… Fredonia and opponents have both attempted 64 corner kicks… The Blue Devils have outshot teams 112-101 in the first half.

LAST MEETING: The Hawks used a stellar team effort to defeat Fredonia 2-0 when these two teams last met on Oct. 25, 2013.


WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz awaits to see the conclusion of the SUNYAC regular season to determine its playoff fate... Buffalo State hosts St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m... Fredonia hosts Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.
