Box Score 2 NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team won, 3-0, in game one of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader against SUNY Oneonta on Friday afternoon at Mary Gray Deane Field before game two of the twinbill was suspended in the bottom of the third due to rain and impending darkness, with Oneonta up, 6-3.
Game two will be resumed on Tuesday, April 22, at Mary Gray Deane Field at 5 p.m.
New Paltz rises to 6-11 overall and 3-2 in the SUNYAC with the game-one win. The Hawks return to action on Sunday, April 13, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at SUNY Geneseo. Oneonta drops to 15-8 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC with the loss. The Red Dragons next square off with The College at Brockport for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday, April 13.
Sophomore pitcher
Katie Rutcofsky (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) threw a five-hit shutout, hurling four strikeouts while walking just two batters.
New Paltz opened scoring in the second, as sophomore third baseman
Nicole DeCosta (Stormville, N.Y./John Jay) ripped an RBI double to left center that scored sophomore catcher
Jordan Fiore (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai). With junior
Juliette Verso (Commack, N.Y./Commack) pinch running for DeCosta, Rutcofsky helped her cause in the circle with an RBI single to center field.

Noelle Grande (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) pushed across senior first baseman
Chelsea Kull (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) with a single up the middle to give New Paltz a 3-0 lead, and the Red Dragons left two runners on base in the final two innings as the Hawks preserved the shutout.
Freshman pitcher Sabrina DeAngelis suffered the loss for Oneonta, yielding three runs off 10 hits and two walks while striking out two.
Junior second baseman
Meg Brewer (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, while Kull batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore designated player Traci Lichtenstein went 2-for-3 to pace Oneonta offensively.
