NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team looks to gain momentum in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play as the Hawks travel to SUNY Plattsburgh for a doubleheader on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. On Saturday, New Paltz heads to Potsdam for a 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. doubleheader against SUNY Potsdam.

RECORDS: The Hawks enter the weekend with a 7-14, 4-5 SUNYAC record… The Cardinals have a 5-15, 3-5 SUNYAC record… Potsdam heads into the weekend with a 1-13, 1-3 SUNYAC mark.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (7-14, 4-5 SUNYAC): New Paltz most recently suffered a doubleheader sweep against The College of Brockport Golden, 4-3 and 1-0 on April 14… The Golden Eagles came back from a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the 6th inning in the first game to earn the victory… Junior Meg Brewer had a strong opening game, going 2-for-3 with a double, home run, and 2 RBI. In the nightcap, the Hawks threatened in the 7th inning, but came up short, suffering a tough 1-0 loss… Junior Noelle Grande went 2-for-3 with a double and sophomore Katie Rutcofsky pitched six stellar innings, allowing just four hits and one run.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Junior Shayna Burgess is hitting .400 with eight doubles, three triples and a home run… She is currently ranked fifth in the conference in batting average, fourth in doubles, fourth in triples, seventh in hits, and fourth in On Base Percentage (.481)… Grande has been strong as well, batting .382 with three doubles and seven stolen bases… She is currently fifth in the conference in stolen bases...  Rutcofsky has a 4-6 pitching record and is currently ranked 12th in the SUNYAC in ERA (2.75)... She has struck out 30 batters, 10th best in the conference.

TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz is hitting .292 as a team, fourth in the SUNYAC… The Hawks have a 4.41 team ERA and a team fielding percentage of .948, both second best in the conference.
 
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (5-15, 3-5 SUNYAC):  Plattsburgh won both games of a SUNYAC doubleheader against SUNY Oswego, 3-2 and 18-7 on April 13… In the first game, sophomore Morgan Anderson earned the win in seven solid innings, allowing eight hits and just two earned runs… Freshman Shelby Heyward, senior Brianna Clarke, and senior Kayla Rabideau all tallied two hits apiece… In the nightcap, the Cardinal bats exploded for 15 hits... Five different Cardinals had multiple hits… Clarke led the attack with 5 RBI and Junior Brittany Marshall had 4 RBI.

INDIVIDUAL STATS: Clarke is leading the team with a .361 batting average... She also has seven doubles, which sixth in the SUNYAC… Her three home runs ranks fourth in the SUNYAC… Marshall is batting .358 with three and a .433 On Base Percentage.

TEAM STATISTICS: The Cardinals are batting .274 as a team… Plattsburgh has a .933 team fielding percentage and a team 5.55 ERA.

SCOUTING THE BEARS (1-13, 1-3 SUNYAC): Potsdam most recently suffered doubleheader SUNYAC loss against Buffalo, 7-1 and 6-3 on April 13 in Buffalo… Sophomore Katie Marsman went 2-for-4 in the first game… Freshman Jordan Ott and freshman Kelly Becker each had two hits in the nightcap.
 
INDIVIDUAL STATS: Ott is one of the top hitters on the team, hitting a team-best .350… She has four doubles and two triples, both team bests… Senior Megan Briner has pitched the most innings for the Bears (33.2 innings)… She sports a 1-4 mark record with a 4.78 ERA.

TEAM STATISTICS: The Bears have a .193 team batting average… Potsdam's pitching staff has a 5.23 ERA and a .926  fielding percentage.

LAST MEETING: New Paltz swept Potsdam in a doubleheader on April 5, 2013 in New Paltz, winning 15-0 and 3-2. The game recaps are shown below.
