Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team dipped out of conference play on a blustery Wednesday afternoon, and lost a hard-fought doubleheader to a strong Union College team, 5-2 and 5-4.
In a quickly played first game, Union scored three runs in the fourth inning to build a 5-1 lead. The second game had a different flavor to it, as the Hawks led 4-2 after four innings, but the host Dutchwomen rallied for two runs in the six and one in the seventh to pull away with the walkoff 5-4 victory. In both games, Union hit key home runs to help produce the wins.
New Paltz now stands at 9-18 on the season, and will head right back to the Albany area on Thursday, completing a suspended game against SUNY Oneonta at the University of Albany at 6 p.m. The Hawks trail the Red Dragons, 6-3, in the third inning. Union, from the Liberty League, improves to 17-9, and next hosts Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a double header on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m.

Kiersten Carlomagno (Commack, N.Y./Commack). For Union, senior Aimee Palleschi had two hits including a two-run homer in the fourth, her fourth of the year. Sophomore Molly O'Brien had an RBI single in the second and sophomore Joanna Chalifoux's RBI ground out came in the third. Sophomore Dani Hennel drove in a run with a ground out in the fourth before Palleschi's homer. Burgess had two hits for the Hawks.

Down 4-2 with two outs and one on in the bottom of the sixth, Union' junior Allyson Staats hit a two-run homer to center, her third of the season, to tie the contest at 4-4. After a seventh inning one out walk to junior Lindsay Cohen and a single by sophomore Molly O'Brien, the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Freshman Brianna Godlewski then singled down the third base line into left for the walk-off victory. Union senior Alyssa Wolejko hit her fourth homer of the season in the first inning, and earned her ninth win allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out three.
