Baseball Downed By No. 20 Ithaca, Gears Up for Oneonta on Sunday

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team celebrated Senior Day at Loren Campbell Field on Saturday, playing host to No. 20 nationally ranked Ithaca College as a tune-up for a climatic regular season doubleheader finale against SUNY Oneonta on Sunday.
 
Ithaca showed is national prominence, registering 7-2 and 11-1 victories in the 7-inning doubleheader.
 
New Paltz heads into Sunday's doubleheader against Oneonta with a 14-20, 6-10 SUNYAC record. Ithaca improved to 22-14 and heads to York (PA) College for a Sunday doubleheader. Oneonta has an 11-23, 6-10 record. Should the Hawks win both games on Sunday, the Hawks would earn the final spot in the SUNYAC playoffs. A split of games favors the Red Dragons.
 
New Paltz faced strong Ithaca pitching, banging out seven hits in the first game and four in the second. The Ithaca offense used the late innings of both games to secure the victories. The Bombers tallied two runs in the sixth and seventh innings of game one and tallied two and five runs respectively in the last two innings of the second game.
 
In the opener, senior Steven Morse (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) had a stellar game with three hits and a run scored.
 
Sophomore Tyler Bell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) had two of the four New Paltz hits in game two.
