Women's Volleyball to Host Stevens on Wednesday Night

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After winning the 12th-annual Hawks Invitational over the weekend, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team hosts the Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., the first home dual match for the Hawks this season.

RECORDS: Riding a nine-match winning streak, the Hawks enter Wednesday at 10-2 overall, as New Paltz won its first Hawk Invitational title since 2010 and its eighth ever... The Ducks are sitting at 8-2, winning eight of their last nine matches.
 

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (10-2): The Hawks went 4-0 last weekend at home, defeating SUNY Fredonia, Mount Saint Mary College, Fairleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham and New York University to claim the Hawk Invitational title, their eighth title in the 12 years of the event... Sophomore middle hitter Morgan Roessler was named the Tournament MVP and was additonally named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 13, marking the third straight week a Hawk earned the honor... Junior outside hitter Becca Borquist was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS (8-2): Stevens has won eight of its past nine matches, including a pair of 3-0 wins over Kean University and Empire 8 foe Hartwick College over the weekend... Stevens went 3-1 in the season-opening Salisbury University Opener, falling to the host Sea Gulls before defeating Clark University, Mount Aloysius College and Swarthmore College... After a 3-0 win over Hunter University, the Ducks went 2-1 at the Springfield College Tournament, claiming wins over Westfield State University and Rivier University... Stevens was predicted to finish first in the 2014 Empire 8 Preseason Poll after going 27-7 last year... The Ducks return last season's Conference Rookie of the Year Mary Tobin and Defensive Specialist/Libero of the Year Kirsten Salmins.
