Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team opened up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play in 2014 with a win, downing host SUNY Oneonta, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-23), at Dewar Arena during the first day of the first SUNYAC Pool Play on Friday.
New Paltz rises to 15-3 overall (1-0 SUNYAC), while Oneonta drops to 10-7 overall (0-1 SUNYAC). The Hawks take on SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 10 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. encounter with SUNY Cortland. The Red Dragons face Cortland at 10 a.m. tomorrow and Potsdam at 12:30 p.m.
The Hawks hit .188 as a team for the match, which included a .308 mark in the second set, while the Red Dragons were limited to a .070 hitting percentage as a team. Both teams finished with five blocks, while New Paltz owned a 7-3 advantage in service aces.
Junior outside hitter
Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) enjoyed an outstanding offensive performance for the Hawks, flooring 15 kills and hitting .464 for the match. Freshman setter

Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) corralled 10 digs and added three service aces.
For Oneonta, junior outside hitter Jill Darpino led the way with seven kills and a .263 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter/right side Erin Avery dished out 10 assists. Junior defensive specialist Allyson Coniglione paced the back row defensively with eight digs.
