NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team will take on Mount Saint Mary and Oneonta in separate dual meets this weekend from Jan. 23-24.
RECORDS: The Hawks are 4-0 overall and 2-0 at home…The Knights are 9-2 overall with a 4-0 home record…The Red Dragons are 5-1 overall and 2-0 away.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (4-0): The Hawks recently won a tight non-conference meet against Ramapo College this past Monday 134.5-127.5… As a whole the Hawks took six first place victories in events to help hold the win over Ramapo. Junior
Maggie Heaton and freshman Meghan Joseph held on for the win for the Hawks by claiming wins in both 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley… Last season against the Knights, the Hawks won all 11 events…
Ella Graffin won both the 50 free (26.30) and the 100 fly (1:03.17)…
Cassidy Griger placed first in the 200 IM (2:20.39) and the 500 free (5:25.85)…
Samantha Granan won the 100 back (1:06.16)… Last year against Oneonta, Griger won the 200 free (2:00.16) and 100 free (54.72)… Granan placed first in the 200 IM (2:17.68).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (9-2): The Knights swept their most recent conference meet against SUNY College at Old Westbury 125-52… Freshman Rachel Stone led the way for the Knights by winning 1,000 yard freestyle (11:55.39) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.98)… Junior Lauren Becerra and sophomore Kira Adler also played part in the sweep by each claiming two events… Becerra won the 100 yard medley (1:07.84) and the 100 yard freestyle (58.78)… Sophomore Kira Adler won two individual events: the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.0) and 500 yard freestyle (5:56.22)… Against New Paltz last year, Becerra placed second in the 1,000 free (11:30.40) and the 200 IM (2:25.37).
LAST DUAL MEET: New Paltz defeated Mount Saint Mary 125-52 when these two teams last met on Jan. 24, 2014.
SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS (5-1): The Red Dragons are coming off a close conference win against The College at Brockport 126-117 this past Saturday… Junior Lauren Zentko gained nine points for Oneonta by winning the 1,650 yard freestyle with a pool-record time of 18:52.62… Zentko also set another pool record later in the meet in the 800 yard freestyle relay… Junior Taylor Waldrop won the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 2:03.73 … Against New Paltz last year, Kelly Ruf won the 200 fly (2:16.93)… Waldrop won the 200 back (2:17.73) and placed second in the 1,000 free (11:21.95)… Zentko took second in the 200 free (2:00.69) and 500 free (5:29.26)… Hilary Chocko won the 200 breast (2:32.01) and claimed second in the 200 IM (2:19.59)... Carly Cahill placed second in the 200 back (2:19.34)
LAST DUAL MEET: New Paltz edged Oneonta 110-95 when these two programs last met on Jan. 25, 2014.
WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz competes at Geneseo on Saturday, Jan. 31 in the final tune-up meet before the 2015 SUNYAC Championships from Feb. 19-21… Mount Saint Mary hosts Lehman on Jan. 24 before competing in the Skyline Championships from Jan. 30-31… Oneonta competes in the Ithaca Diving Invite on Sunday, Jan. 25.
