Meet Results

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team won both relays and added five individual event victories in a 115-87 win over Mount Saint Mary College Friday night at Kaplan Center Pool.

Freshman Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) was a double event winner for the Hawks, taking first in both the 50 freestyle (25.76) and the 100 freestyle (56.62).

New Paltz rises to 5-0 in dual meets with the win and faces perhaps its toughest test yet this season tomorrow when it hosts SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m. in its final home meet of the year. Mount Saint Mary falls to 9-3 with the loss and will spend the next week gearing up for the Skyline Conference Championships, which run from Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31.

The Hawks set the tone of the meet early with a victory in the 400 medley relay, as the foursome of juniors Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central), Krista VerMeersch (Newark, N.Y./Newark) and Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and sophomore Kyrstin Gallagher (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) charted a winning time of 4:18.79 in the opening event. New Paltz also closed the meet strong, winning by more than 10 seconds in the 400 freestyle relay; the Hawks' quartet of Griger, sophomore Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School), senior Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and junior Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) posted the top standard of 3:49.60 in the event.

Granan clocked the winning time in the 200 freestyle (2:05.43), freshman Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) touched first in the 400 individual medley (4:54.12) and senior Rachael Cummings (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:30.94).

Second-place performances came from sophomore Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) in the 400 individual medley (5:08.00), Graffin in the 100 freestyle (57.00) and freshman Lindsay Feminella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea) in the 500 freestyle (5:43.17).
